Egerton
University academic community believes that we have an enormous
responsibility and challenge to provide leadership and expertise in
Agriculture and environment towards a sustainable and restorative
society that respects health, wholeness, balance and diversity.
Furthermore, we realize that benefits exist for organizations willing to
take on the challenge of sustainable development. In view of this, the
Faculty of Environment and Resources Development (FERD) of Egerton
University is gearing up for the annual Environmental Conservation Week
scheduled to start on the 16th of June 2014. The theme for this year’s environmental campaign is “Forests for Better Environment and Sustainable Development”.
The
Faculty has partnered with corporate bodies, community based
organisations, local educational institutions and the County Government
of Nakuru to undertake a wide range of field activities including tree
planting, clean-up of public spaces, sports competitions and a student
environmental beauty contest event to appoint Mr and Miss Environment to
be the ambassadors for Environmental Conservation Campaign in the year.
The
main sponsors of this year’s events include the APA Insurance Company,
Kenya Commercial Bank and the Management of Egerton University. Strong
participation has already been registered from the Egerton student body,
primary schools (under the MyClimate program) in the Njoro area and other members of the public interested being involved in this year’s activities.
The
Dean of the Faculty of Environment & Resources Development wishes
to extend an invitation to all members of Egerton University and the
public to join us raising awareness on the need to protect our
environment during this year’s Egerton Environmental Conservation Week. A
schedule of the program of activities will soon be communicated in due
